For Immediate Release
August 19, 2010

Contact:
Gilberto Zaragoza, Vince Rabago for Attorney General
520-548-9959 gilberto.zaragoza@gmail.com

Vince Rabago, Who Warned of the Dangers of Privatizing Arizona’s Prisons in 2009, Demands Common-Sense Prison Reform Today

Will Fight to Bring About Needed Reforms as Attorney General

Phoenix, AZ — On a hot summer day in 2009 Vince Rabago joined the Arizona Conference of Police and Sheriffs (AZCOPS) and the Arizona Correctional Peace Officers Association to stand up for common sense and speak out against turning over Arizona’s inmates, and the safety of Arizona citizens, to for-profit prison corporations.

With one of the Kingman Three and his accomplice still on the lam, Vince issues the following statement:

“I am confident that the remaining fugitives, John Charles McCluskey and Casslyn Welch, will be caught. However, I’m troubled by Gov. Brewer’s statement earlier this week that the escape of McCluskey and two other dangerous criminals on July 30th ‘looks to be a human error, not an institutional one.’ Furthermore, yesterday’s escape of an inmate in Tucson and Brewer’s continued silence on the matter, proves that our governor and all our state leaders, need to get focused now.”

“It is most definitely an institutional error, and a profound failure of leadership, when we allow convicted murderers to be sent to lower-security, for profit prisons. Selling murderers and other hardened criminals to the lowest bidder is irresponsible and short-sighted.”

“I stand firmly with Attorney General Goddard, the Democratic minority in the Legislature, correctional officers, sheriffs and police officers — and so many others across the community — in condemning the current system that allows convicted murderers to be housed in lower-security, for-profit prisons. As Arizona’s next attorney general, I will push hard to change the laws that govern where murderers and other hardened criminals can be jailed, to ensure that ‘locked up’ really means locked up.”

Vince Rabago is a 16-year veteran public prosecutor with experience keeping dangerous criminals behind bars and fighting to maintain the death penalty against the most egregious murderers, at the highest levels of our court system.

As Attorney General, Rabago will protect Arizonans and make sure the bad guys stay behind bars.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tuesday, July 27, 2010

CONTACT:
David Higuera, Vince Rabago for Attorney General
(520) 321-1111, davideh@simginc.com

Vince Rabago Files 3,200 $5 Donations to Qualify for Clean Elections Funding

As Arizona’s Next Attorney General, Rabago Will Continue Career of Prosecuting Dangerous Criminals and Protecting Consumers

PHOENIX — Former Assistant Attorney General Vince Rabago filed more than 3,200 $5 donations today, from voters in every district across the state, to qualify for Clean Elections funds in his race for Arizona Attorney General. Rabago is seeking the Democratic nomination for Attorney General in the August 24th Primary.

“My opponents in the Democratic primary, Rotellini and Lujan, are two Capitol insiders who are much too close to the special interests and powerful lobbyists that have run Arizona into the ditch,” stated Rabago. “We don’t need a career politician as our next Attorney General, we need a proven prosecutor.”

“As the only non-establishment candidate, I am the underdog in this primary. But today’s filing assures I will have the resources to compete and win on Aug 24th.”

“David Lujan, the other Clean candidate, is too immersed in old politics of careful calculation and poll-tested positions to win. He didn’t have the guts to vote one way or the other on SB1070 when it came before the House, despite his supposed role as Democratic Leader,” added Rabago. “As a leader, I would not only have voted No on 1070, because it is the wrong solution to a serious problem and will do nothing to secure our borders, I would have fulfilled my leadership obligations to do everything possible to either amend it or kill it before it ever reached the Governor’s desk. As Attorney General, you don’t get to take a walk on tough decisions.”

“Democrats need a candidate in the fall who has the courage to stand up and fight for what’s right — and stand up against the ideological bullies — as I did in my public statement against 1070 before it was signed into law and in my public statements against Russell Pearce’s latest mission to deny birthright citizenship and create a two-tier system in our public schools.”

“Our qualification for Clean Elections funding also assures we will have the resources to take down Andy Thomas or Tom Horne in the General Election, something Felicia Rotellini cannot count on,” added Campaign Manager Gilberto Zaragoza. “It has taken her nearly a year to raise the amount she’s raised to date, and she’s burning through it at a pretty fast clip. In this environment, how would she possibly raise the amount needed for the General in just eight weeks?”

Vince Rabago brings 20 years’ experience fighting for the people and protecting vulnerable citizens to his campaign for Arizona Attorney General, including the last 16 years as a public prosecutor in the Offices of the Arizona and California Attorneys General, working in both the civil and criminal divisions.

In 2009, Rabago investigated and brought a major fraud lawsuit against out-of-state payday lender QuikCash for deceptive collection practices. Despite what opponent Rotellini claimed during the televised Democratic candidate debate sponsored by Clean Elections, Rabago successfully obtained a court injunction to immediately stop QuikCash’s deceptive collection practices across the state.

Over his career as a public prosecutor, Vince Rabago has been on the front lines of many of the issues that Arizona’s next Attorney General will need to deal with, such as mortgage and student loan fraud, multi-state financial fraud, online safety and privacy, foreclosure rescue scams, and the battle against unscrupulous payday lenders.

“I have spent my entire career dedicated to protecting consumers, targeting scammers, and making sure dangerous criminals never again walk the streets,” stated Rabago. “As the only candidate to have prosecuted death penalty cases at the highest levels of our court system, I have the tough-on-crime credentials and experience that nobody else in this race has. Furthermore, as someone born and raised in Douglas, Arizona, I won’t be lectured by anyone on border security or the other issues facing our border communities.”

Concluded Rabago, “If Democrats want a candidate who has the courage to beat Tom Horne or Andy Thomas in November, and the chops and know-how to get things done as AG, I’m their candidate.”

We need a Democrat who can go toe-to-toe against Thomas or Horne in November, and WIN.

Vince Rabago is that candidate.

Vince is a veteran prosecutor, not a politician. He spent 16 years as a state prosecutor in the Offices of the Arizona and California Attorneys General, and is the only candidate in the race who has prosecuted cases involving hardened, violent criminals to the highest levels of our courts. He’s got the tough-on-crime credentials that nobody else in the race has, ensuring that Democrats can win in November.

Vince has also fought for working families and to protect consumers, successfully taking on a major out-of-state payday lender in court and stopping their deceptive practices.

Help me help Vince by sending in your $5 Clean Elections contribution today. Download the form and mail it in. Vince needs $5 Clean Elections contributions from Arizona voters to qualify for Clean Elections campaign funding.

I am proud to be Vince’s campaign co-chairman because for far too long politicians in Arizona have been afraid of standing up to ideologues or injustice. As state lawmakers like Russell Pearce assault the Constitution, most recently attacking the citizenship of American children – few have spoken out against it. Not Vince. Vince stood up against such immoral legislation and will continue to do so. [AZ Capitol Times, 6/18.]

If you want to give more, you can! Vince can also accept separate “Seed Money” contributions of up to $140 while he works to qualify for Clean Elections funding. You do not need to live in Arizona in order to donate a “Seed Money” contribution. Visitwww.vince4az.com to make a separate seed money contribution online.

I’m Retired General John Adams. I served in the US Army for more than thirty years, in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Europe. It is my privilege to share a life of service with my brothers and sisters in arms who defend the Constitution of the United States. Our Independence Day is a most special day for me and for all veterans.

On this Independence Day, I hope you’ll join me in gratitude for our great country and for all those who serve and protect our American values. That begins with our proud men and women in uniform and their families, and also includes those civilians in the community who work tirelessly to protect our American values and protect our communities from crime.

One such civil servant is Vince Rabago, former Assistant Attorney General and Democratic candidate for Arizona Attorney General.

I am proud to serve as Co-Chair of Vince’s campaign because Vince is devoted to serving all of us in Arizona with the highest principles — equality under the law for all, preservation of our constitutional rights, and defense against those who would prey upon our citizens and our communities. In the best spirit of those Americans who have gone before who stood up in their own communities — like John Adams in Massachusetts three centuries ago — Vince fights for the rights of all Arizonans. He fights against special privilege for the few, and against those who would take advantage of the most vulnerable among us.

Vince’s life is one of dedicated, effective, relentless service to his fellow citizens, and I hope you’ll join me in supporting him as our next Attorney General.

Today on this 234th Anniversary of American Independence, thank a veteran, show your pride in America, and get out there and support great candidates for public office like Vince Rabago.

Vince is a Clean Elections candidate, meaning he has decided to stay away from special interest money and PAC money and instead be funded entirely by average citizens.

The best way to support Vince and to take an active role in our Democracy today is to make a $5 contribution to Vince to help him qualify for Clean Elections funding. Thank you.

May you have a happy and safe 4th of July.

Respectfully,
